The GEA Bloksma Box Cooler combines various advantages employed in seagoing vessels: ranging from workboats such as tugs and offshore-platform supply vessels, to cargo vessels and dredgers. It offers significant reductions in fuel consumption due to its lack of sea-water pumps. This means that use of Box Coolers on board can save up to 15,000 liters of fuel per year. Thanks to the thermo-syphon principle in the sea chest, the Box Cooler is perfectly suitable for stationary applications. The system is not susceptible to galvanic corrosion and impurities. In particular, it prevents biological fouling by an impressed-current anti-fouling (ICAF) system.Box Coolers are available in round versions for small capacities, and as rectangular models for larger ratings.

Coolers for sustainable NOx reduction
With its fully welded exhaust-gas recirculation cooler, GEA Heat Exchangers presents a new cooler generation for large maritime diesel engines that allows reduction of NOx emissions. With these packages, this new technology – developed in close collaboration with GEA customers – allows a mixture of recirculated exhaust gases with fresh charge air, at low temperatures. The exhaust-gas reciculation cooler lowers the temperature of hot exhaust gases (some as hot as 700 °C) down to 50 °C, before they are recirculated and mixed. The compact heat exchanger is made of stainless steel, resistant to temperature and corrosion effects.Gas and water connections are matched to customer requirements, which means that these units can be retrofitted to already installed large diesel engines. These exhaust-gas recirculation coolers feature modular design and are offered in two variants: as high-temperature coolers (resistant to temperatures up to 700 °C), and as low-temperature models (with gas inlet temperatures up to 200 °C), with downstream condensate separator.Even now, this technology satisfies future emission regulations set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), TIER III (the US exhaust-gas standard), and EURO.

GEA Heat Exchangers provide high-performance EcoFlex plate heat exchangers for marine cooling water systems
The EcoFlex NT series of heat exchangers is designed specifically to the marine cooling or heating duties and offers robust and compact product solutions suitable for ships and off-shore installations. The heat exchangers cool or heat various onboard applications such as central cooling, jacket water cooling, lube oil cooling, engine fuel heating/cooling, and tank cleaning heating. The EcoFlex NT Series was specifically developed for the requirements of offshore and commercial marine environments. The OptiWave plate technology flow distribution systems reduce fouling thus extend time between service and the PosLoc plate alignment system and EcoLoc gasket fixation system reduce down time at service and re-gasketing.For sea water cooled applications in-line strainers protecting the cooler inlet channels from clogging and special connections for back-flushing can be provided.GEA Heat Exchangers supply plate heat exchangers to various applications within commercial marine and on/off-shore oil & gas.
