Less is more
The GEA presentation this year at the trade fair ISH 2011 is focused extensively on energy efficiency and sustainability. Less energy consumption, smaller footprints, and more economical operations in all load ranges are typical for many items to be presented by the segments GEA Heat Exchangers and GEA Refrigeration Technologies – benefits that multiply customer benefits.

A number of examples:
GEA Air Treatment is presenting new options for its GEA CAIRplus modular central air-handling units. They are now available from the factory with adiabatic cooling. Its optional new aluminum plate heat exchanger GEA ECOTWINcool further enhances its already good efficiency.

The compact GEA COM4pluscentral air-handling unit from GEA Air Treatment, ready from the factory for hooking up and plugging in, is likewise very thrifty with energy. The COM4plus is available for the output range up to 7,000 m³/h, also in combination with an inverter-controlled compressor-condenser unit. In applications in central Europe, this combination is especially effective in partial-load situations as a result of the low air speeds in the air-handling unit, and owing to the favorable operation point of the compressor-condenser unit. This leads to extremely high annual mean efficiency of the system.

A the fair, GEA Refrigeration Technologies will present its Grasso BluAstrum screw chiller, which combines high efficiency with compact dimensions. This new range is being offered with cooling duty from 500 to approx. 2,000 kW. Owing to its narrow structural design, it can pass through standard doors for installation. It is therefore also especially suitable for uncomplicated replacement of older machines. BluAstrum uses the natural refrigerant ammonia and – with the aid of its motor-speed control and Vi settings – achieves a high degree of effectiveness at partial and full load (ESEER value > 8).

At ISH, GEA PHE Systems will introduce its new stainless-steel plate heat exchangers (which do not contain non-ferrous materials) from its GG range. They were especially developed for drinking-water applications and use a rack concept with closed steel box channels, which does not come into contact with the media. The direct application of force by the tension rods allows construction of small profile sections. The result is a very compact plate heat exchanger with extraordinary space savings.
