The efficiency of a heat pump is defined by it's coefficient of performance (COP). The COP is a ratio of useful heating (or cooling) 
a heat pump will produce, given a certain energy input. The higher the COP value, the higher the efficiency.

HEAT PUMP | WORKING PRINCIPLE

A heat pump consists of an evaporator, compressor, condenser and an expansion valve. 

The system allows for the transmission of heat from one location (Heat Source) at a lower temperature 
to another location (Heat Sink) at a higher temperature. 

  • The technology and efficiency of the heat exchangers significantly determines the COP value
  • The COP "Coefficient Of Performance" is the ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to work (energy) required 
  • The higher the COP value, the higher the efficiency
  • Heat Source is an important factor to determine the heat exchanger for the evaporator
  • Technology of the evaporator and condenser play a decisive role for the efficient operation of the system
  • Size of heat exchangers and heat pump affect energy coverage and part-load operation 
  • Condenser technology affects heat transfer and thus the efficiency of the system
