MIG Welder (Metal Inert Gas)

POSITION PURPOSE

Able to perform setup and operation functions on a M.I.G. Welder and routinely perform such duties. Assists supervisor in identifying maintenance requirements. Performs all work activities in accordance with Health and Safety Program and IATF 16949 Quality System. Evaluates fabrication processes to determine the best methods of production of sheet metal products.  Performs other duties assigned by supervisor including assembly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receive instructions, prints, and work orders for the job.
• Setup a Wire Welding Machine according to the work instructions and job routers. Be able to set-up Wire welding machine to weld with different gauges of metal. Assist other employees in setup and operation functions as needed.
• Operate other production machines as needed, including but not limited to air tools and hand sanders.
• Seek to maximize the output of quality fabricated metal parts per production schedule. Identify improvements of fabrication methods that will increase quality and profitability. Identify maintenance issues as they arise.
• Provide information as requested to other departments to facilitate the completion of work projects.
• Understand and comply with all facets of the Health and Safety Program. Perform projects within the framework of the IATF 16949 Quality System.
• Exhibit professional demeanor.

COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS (knowledge, skills and abilities)

• Have some basic knowledge of Wire welding.
• Able to read drawings to include material and part specifications, tolerances, notes, symbols, and multiple part views.
• Has working knowledge of sheet metal types, gauges, sheet sizes, finishes, etc. Exhibits good problem-solving skills.
• Exhibits adequate verbal communication skills. Has exposure to IATF 16949 Quality System.
• Exhibits ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• The ability to set-up Wire welding machine to perform the jobs required.
• Perform work requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of materials. Some of these may be repetitive and heavy weights with the assistance of a crane.
• Should have basic math and reading skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

• High school diploma or GED, required.
• Must be available to work overtime as production requirements deem necessary.
