Evaporative cooling for plant cultivation and animal breeding: the GEA AGRIdek climate-control system with proven 2H Humipacking® plastic elements
29. 07. 2014 With immediate availability, GEA Heat Exchangers now offers a climate-control system for livestock breeding and for greenhouses. The GEA AGRIdek climate-control system is based on GEA 2H Humipacking® plastic components. Owing to its ease of operation and durability, the system efficiently exploits energy-efficient evaporative cooling and is especially effective for plant cultivation and animal breeding, as well as for storage and production buildings.
Low operating costs and simple assembly make the solution attractive as well for retrofitting in existing buildings. Assembly of the components takes place by plug-and-click connection, and is easily carried out by the customer. For the climate-control system, the customer needs to provide only a wooden frame installed in the recess for air supply cut in the wall of the stall. A power connection and water-supply line are also necessary. The system can also be operated with very hard water, and is simply cleaned with water.
The adiabatic cooling principle of the GEA AGRIdek climate-control system is implemented through cooling warm air by the evaporation of water. External fans exhaust vitiated air and allow fresh, moist, and cool air to flow in and to assure effective air movement. Initially, the honeycomb fill elements of the GEA AGRIdek climate-control system are uniformly wetted with water with the aid of a trickle system (deflector). The ambient air then flowing through the packing absorbs the moisture from the wetted surface, is cooled at the same time, and flows into the climate-controlled rooms with only slight pressure drop.
The rugged and pressure-stable GEA Humipacking® elements offer a very large surface area. They consist of polypropylene sheets that are cut and systematically bonded together securely to form modules with a stable, cross-fluted structure. These elements demonstrate exceptionally great resistance to erosion by contact with water. The light material does not contain halogens or heavy metals. Since the system consists only of PVC, polypropylene, and stainless steel, it is resistant to corrosion, UV radiation, and most chemicals.
