GEA Happel Klimatechnik: 40th anniversary of its plant in Obershausen-Löhnberg, Germany
30. 08. 2004 On 10 September 2004 GEA Happel Klimatechnik Produktions- und Servicegesellschaft celebrated its 40th anniversary at the plant in Obershausen-Löhnberg, Germany. Since the very beginning there, the company has manufactured air-treatment equipment for commercial and industrial applications.
This plant operated by GEA Happel Klimatechnik Produktions- und Servicegesellschaft mbH has undergone dynamic development during the past 40 years. In 1964, 70 staff began work with the production of small flat-panel radiators, convectors, and air heaters.
By 1965 the number of staff had already risen to 160. In 1975, production began for heat exchangers for fan-coil units, and sheet-metal production was modernized. This key investment represented a crucial step in the future development of the factory.
In 1979, the jump in heating-oil prices resulted in a surge in demand for domestic-hot-water pumps, heat pumps for room heating, and for any systems that offered energy savings. The company invested in building plant and in machines to expand production capacity, and the number of staff rapidly increased to 200. GEA investments in the area of heat exchangers effectively compensated for the following recession on the heat-pump market during the early 1980s, and helped to successfully counter the difficult economic situation of this period.
Today, GEA Happel Klimatechnik Produktions- und Servicegesellschaft mbH employs approx. 160 staff at the factory in Obershausen-Löhnberg. From the extensive product portfolio of the GEA Air Treatment Division, this plant manufactures fan-coil units as well as MultiFlair air heaters, on 48,000 sq. metres of production floor space.
The Basic, Power, and Cassette models of fan-coil units are among the top-selling products marketed by the GEA Air-Treatment Division.
An additional major product group manufactured at Obershausen includes GEA copper-aluminium heat exchangers. Other GEA plants also utilize these heat exchangers for the equipment that they manufacture at their own locations.
The components manufactured at the Obershausen plant are made with the aid of the latest in sheet-metal production technology – including automatic loading and unloading equipment, as well as integrated automatic sheet-metal edge-processing systems.
Products manufactured in Obershausen have long since gained a good reputation beyond the borders of Germany, and are in service throughout Europe.
Thomas Noebels, General Manager of GEA Happel Klimatechnik Produktions- und Servicegesellschaft mbH, said, “In the 40 years since the Obershausen plant was founded, the factory successfully passed through difficult economic phases. Our work in Obershausen has always been characterised by a special quality of collaboration among our staff – and by the commitment of all employees to the work at our plant, which has already developed a local tradition of its own.”
The 40th anniversary of the Obershausen plant was celebrated in a “small” group: plant management, the entire staff, as well as their families. The mayor of Löhnberg, Jörg Sauer, also announced that he would attend the festivities.
