As of 1 August, Jochen Engelke (40) will take over responsibility for leadership of the GEA Air Treatment Division plants. He is the successor of Dr. Felix Fremerey (45), who will leave the GEA Group on 31 July to accept new commitments elsewhere. As member of senior management, Engelke will now coordinate the activities of all 7 European production plants operated by the GEA Air Treatment Division. These plants produce central and decentral components for HVAC systems, which include air-handling units, fan-coil units, unit heaters, roof extraction fans, and heat exchangers.

Jochen Engelke’s responsibilities will include reorganisation of these plants within a program of introduction of new technologies and products. Two examples here are the modifications required in the plants in Wurzen, near Leipzig, and at Gaspoltshofen in Austria, to make way for the new CAIR product family of GEA air-handling units. The initial stage of reorganisation involves conversion of the factory in Wurzen, with the plant in Gaspoltshofen following in the second stage. Within the process of introduction of the CAIR line throughout Europe, GEA has invested in new equipment and has optimized production and logistics procedures. As part of an ongoing upgrading process, continuous further enhancement measures will be implemented at these locations, as well as at other GEA sites. The objective of these measures is further improvement in product quality. As Jochen Engelke said, “It is truly impressive how our staff accept responsibility on their own, and how they apply their expertise. This applies not only to their daily work, but also to product reorganization as well.” Engelke welcomes his new post: “I am very much looking forward to my new assignment, and intend to exert a great deal of commitment, in close collaboration with my colleagues, to make a contribution to positive developments at the GEA Air Treatment Division.”

Engelke will be able to apply engineering expertise and in-house experience to his new assignment. After his studies in process and chemical engineering in Dortmund, his first position was at Fluor Daniel, an engineering firm specializing in the construction of large-scale chemical plants. He spent two years in the USA, where he employed his skills intensively for production-process development and technology transfer in production of plastics and special chemicals. Eight years ago Jochen Engelke returned home, and to GEA. He worked at first in the area of Inhouse Consulting at GEA AG, where he directed these activities from 2000 until 2004. Until August of 2006 Engelke was Managing Director of the GEA Refrigeration Division, where he was responsible for production plants that manufacture refrigerating compressors in Berlin, Halle (Germany), and 's-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands).

It’s not only at work, but also in his time off that Jochen Engelke loves to be dynamic. He is a passionate sailor and surfer, and in winter he is regularly seen on the ski slopes. And, he says, “My two children really keep me going at the same time.”
