Acquisition of the company Deichmann Umwelttechnik GmbH fills out the GEA filter portfolio
01. October 2008 Further growth in the filter business of GEA Air Treatment
Effective as of 1 October 2008, GEA Group will take over the company Deichmann Umwelttechnik GmbH in Bebra, in the German State of Hesse. Deichmann, with its staff of around 50, is manufacturer and provider of industrial dust-filter systems. The new company will complement the filter business of GEA Air Treatment. Since the product portfolios of the companies are almost mutually exclusive, the merger will create synergism and open up new markets.
Dr. Frank Vossloh, Member of the Board of GEA Air Treatment, said, “Deichmann opens the way for us to a sector of the dust-filtration market that we could not until now reach with the small- and medium-scale solutions of GEA Delbag Lufttechnik. This is a market that has continually grown in recent years as a result of enhanced health and environmental consciousness, and of stricter regulations.”
Last year, Deichmann achieved sales of approximately 7 million euros. As Dr. Michael Bauer, Chief Financial Officer of GEA Air Treatment, explained, “After integration this year of the French company Astair, our present acquisition of Deichmann represents the next direction-setting step toward strategic, international expansion of GEA Air Treatment filter business.”
As provider of industrial filter facilities, Deichmann serves such segments as mining, steel, building-materials, and the food and beverage industries, with filter systems offering airflow up to 200 Tm³/h. Thomas Horstmann, head of filter business within the GEA Air Treatment Division, elaborates: “A further characteristic that differentiates the two companies is the following: GEA Delbag Lufttechnik possesses pronounced strengths in the areas of oil and emulsion-mist filtration, with central and decentral electrostatic and duct-air filters – as well as air-intake filter systems for gas turbines and compressors. Deichman, on the other hand, has the core business with dust-filter systems.”
The integration of Deichmann in GEA Air Treatment will also bolster GEA know-how. “Deichmann from Hesse develops and produces its dust-filtration systems itself. In addition to conventional industrial applications, the company also serves sophisticated areas: e.g., facilities sufficiently resistant to pressure and pressure shock, in accordance with ATEX, for applications in explosive atmospheres, and for explosive mixtures of dust and air-dust.” In addition, Deichmann with its position in European countries outside Germany offers a good platform to even better establish GEA products,” comments Thomas Horstmann.
