GEA GLAC-CD air-cooled chillers with desuperheaters utilize exhausted heat to provide hot water

Press Release

16. May 2014 The GEA GLAC 2015-4121 CD air-cooled line of chillers for outdoor installation, is immediately available with desuperheaters. This series covers the cooling-duty range between 40 and 350 kW and provides heat recovery between 10 and 100 kW.

An additional plate heat exchanger serves with the GEA GLAC 2015-4121 CD series as a desuperheater. It can recover a major share of the heat recovered from the cold water.
An additional plate heat exchanger serves with the GEA GLAC 2015-4121 CD series as a desuperheater. It can recover a major share of the heat recovered from the cold water.

The desuperheater is a heat exchanger between the compressor outlet and the intake into the air-cooled condenser. While the compressors are in operation, the desuperheater recovers a proportion of the heat removed from the cold water. A pump provided by the customer ensures that hot water is input only on demand. If this pump is switched off, the GEA GLAC 2015-4121 CD series models operate as normal chillers. The operating range of this series essentially coincides with the operating range of models without desuperheaters. The air-cooled chillers with scroll compressors operate with the refrigerant R-410A.

The heating duty of the desuperheater roughly coincides with the power consumption of the compressor. Operation of the desuperheater increases the cooling duty of the chiller by approx. 4 %. The temperature difference between intake and outlet in the hot water circuit may amount to a minimum of 5 K and a maximum of 30 K. The heated water leaves the desuperheater at least at 30 °C and at not more than 60 °C. On the cold side of the chiller, the minimum outlet temperature of the medium is -8 °C.

In addition to the standard version of this new series, a sound-attenuated version (SL) is also available – as well as an especially energy-efficient model (HE = high efficiency).
