Kelvion Secures 150MW Air Fin Cooler Order for Landmark EWE Hydrogen Project in Emden

Kelvion has secured a significant order to supply Air Fin Coolers for one of Germany’s most ambitious green hydrogen production projects. The equipment will provide 150 MW of cooling capacity for EWE’s large scale 320 MW hydrogen production plant in Emden – the central element of the EWE Clean Hydrogen Coastline program.

The project marks a decisive step in Germany’s hydrogen ramp‑up and reinforces Kelvion’s position as a key partner in the energy transition.

Kelvion’s scope of supply includes a large Air Fin Cooler system, complete with a steel structure, main piping, and electrotechnical equipment.

Driving the Hydrogen Transformation in Northern Germany

EWE’s Emden electrolyzer will produce green hydrogen on an industrial scale starting in 2027, supported by the region’s strong wind‑energy infrastructure. The fully integrated Clean Hydrogen Coastline program links hydrogen production, transport, and storage, making it one of Europe’s most comprehensive hydrogen value chain initiatives.

EWE required a dry, central air‑cooling system to dissipate heat from the plant’s main cooling water circuit. Kelvion’s customised Air Fin Cooler solution was engineered specifically to meet the stringent technical, environmental, and reliability standards of large‑scale hydrogen production.

A Strategic Partnership for a Decarbonised Future

“This project is a cornerstone of our Clean Hydrogen Coastline program. To make large‑scale hydrogen production viable, we rely on technology partners who understand the complexity and the ambition of what we are building. Kelvion’s cooling solution plays a decisive role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our electrolyzer operations,” says Dr. Geert Tjarks, managing director of the EWE Hydrogen GmbH.

“We are proud to contribute our thermal expertise to support one of Europe’s most forward‑looking energy projects. Our team is deeply committed to enabling the technologies that power tomorrow’s decarbonised economy,” says Stephen van der Weiden, VP Commercial DACH at Kelvion.

Enabling What’s Next in Hydrogen Technology

As hydrogen takes centre stage in Europe’s decarbonisation efforts, Kelvion continues to support utilities, developers, and EPC partners with solutions tailored to the demanding conditions of next generation energy systems. The Emden project reinforces Kelvion’s role as a reliable and innovative partner for transformative infrastructure.
