Environmentally friendly alternative
Kelvion is Fenagy's heat exchanger partner for their large CO2 heat pumps and we supplied specially brazed plate heat exchangers using CO2 as a natural refrigerant, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating methods.
The plate heat exchangers can handle pressures up to 130 bar and play a crucial role in the system: The units act as gas coolers, cooling the hot CO2 coming from the compressor. They can also act as CO2 evaporators later in the heat pump cycle.
With a capacity of more than 1,300 kW per unit, these plate heat exchangers are highly efficient, which means fewer units are required, simplifying installation and reducing the complexity of piping and welding.
Sustainable heating
Fenagy's industrial heat pump systems absorb energy through the evaporation of cold CO2 or hydrocarbons in the units, collecting energy from liquid or the surrounding air.
The absorbed energy is then transferred to the district heating system, providing a sustainable heating solution. In addition, the cold side of the heat pump can be used for cold storage and refrigeration, making it a versatile addition to the district heating infrastructure.
Kelvion's R&D team played a key role in this project, involving several experts and professors in thermodynamics to ensure a precise design.
This was the latest in a series of projects for Fenagy. Since their first order in 2022 this customer has acquired dozens of our plate heat exchangers for their heat pump systems.
Klaus Hoberg Jensen, Sales Manager, Industrial Cooling and Heating, Fenagy: "Kelvion’s technical expertise and the reliable performance of their thermal management solutions have been instrumental in our mission to provide environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems to our customers. We value their commitment to quality and look forward to continuing our partnership on future projects."
The result
This collaboration between Kelvion and Fenagy not only highlights the technological advances in heat pump systems, but also sets a benchmark for sustainable and efficient district heating solutions. The project demonstrates how innovative engineering and strategic partnerships can deliver significant environmental and economic benefits.
