Reliable Thermal Management for LNG Technology Leader

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) continues to play a key transitional role in the global energy mix – bridging the gap between conventional fossil fuels and renewable alternatives. At the heart of LNG infrastructure lie gas turbines that power key processes such as compression and liquefaction. When a global energy technology company operating in Italy required a highly reliable oil cooling solution for its turbines on offshore platforms and Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, Kelvion delivered.

A Decade-Long Collaboration

Kelvion has been working with this customer for over ten years, providing thermal solutions tailored to the extreme demands of gas extraction and LNG production. In the past four years, this partnership has intensified as global demand for LNG continues to rise. Each project comes with stringent technical, regulatory, and operational requirements – making trust, consistency, and engineering excellence essential.

Powering LNG Production

The turbines cooled by Kelvion’s Shell & Tube heat exchangers provide power to offshore facilities, including the compressors that liquefy natural gas. Without reliable turbine oil cooling, the performance of the entire LNG production chain could be compromised.

Kelvion supplies a custom series of Shell & Tube heat exchangers, specifically developed for two turbine sizes standardised by the energy tech company. The solution features compact, low-fin designs that offer a space-saving yet highly reliable alternative to Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE). The offshore environment prioritises ease of operation, long service life, and low maintenance – all critical requirements that Kelvion’s Shell & Tube units are specifically designed to meet.

Customisation Meets Commitment

Achieving alignment with the technical standards of our customer was a multi-year effort. Every detail was engineered to meet strict approval processes. What makes this collaboration exceptional is the customised series developed exclusively for the energy company – a long-term investment in a highly strategic partnership.

Looking Ahead

As LNG continues to replace coal and heavier fuels in many markets, it represents a pragmatic step in the global energy transition. Kelvion’s ongoing support also extends to future-focused projects, including emerging carbon capture initiatives – areas where our customer is increasingly active.
