POSITION SUMMARY

The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses to produce precision metal components. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
POSITION SUMMARY

The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses to produce precision metal components. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions
  • Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and operations
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and ensure proper tool care
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and parts produced
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to resolve machining issues
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES) 

  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and metalworking techniques
  • Experience with various materials including steel, aluminum, and alloys

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

  • High school diploma or GED; technical training or apprenticeship preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience operating manual machining equipment
