Growing population boosts demand

Despite the fall in oil prices in recent years, the industry continues to invest in new facilities to satisfy the hunger for refined products. The International Energy Agency estimates that global demand for oil will rise from 96 million barrels per day in 2016 to almost 102 million barrels per day by 2022. Global investment in liquefied natural gas is expected to reach US$284 billion between 2017 and 2021, an increase of 50%.
