Bioethanol - a sustainable fuel option
Bioethanol, a liquid biofuel, is produced through microbial fermentation and requires minimal energy input. The CO2 produced as a by-product helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and serves as a recycled carbon source for microalgae cultivation. Various sources, including sugar cane molasses, starch crops, agricultural residues and discarded crops, contribute to bioethanol production. Producers are focusing on the use of agricultural and forestry residues as well as energy crops such as miscanthus, switchgrass and sugar cane bagasse. Bioethanol can be used as a stand-alone fuel or in combination with other fossil fuels.
Wide gap plate heat exchangers the solution
As bioethanol production involves working with media containing coarse particles, our customers were looking for a heat exchanger solution that would not clog and cause costly downtime.
Kelvion's NW series plate heat exchangers are specially designed with a wide gap for coarse particle containing liquids and therefore play a central role in various ethanol production applications.
In 2023 alone, Kelvion supplied three bioethanol production plants in India with almost 600 plate heat exchangers. The close cooperation between our production sites in Pune and Sarstedt made this possible.
