Data Center Cooling Solutions
ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS FOR MISSION CRITICAL APPLICATIONS
For data centers seeking to use less energy, free cooling solutions that use naturally cool air or water, instead of mechanical refrigeration, are increasingly attractive options.
Factors such as the maximum temperature required for the servers, and the availability of water will influence which free cooling system to choose. Typical heat rejection systems include dry air coolers, adiabatic dry coolers, hybrid coolers and cooling towers.
Space, power and cooling are the three essentials for effective data center operation. CRAH systems offer a competitive solution for the data center industry as they are simple to mount and have the flexibility to be designed to suit specific needs.
In considering a CRAH system, it is important to take into account – at the design stage – the available space, aisle widths, ceiling heights, coil configurations and the air flow requirements of computer manufacturers, as well as system redundancies.
The different ways of adopting liquid cooling all need to be weighed against the characteristics of the fluids, the type of system, design, costs and available space.
It is clear that you need to consider the design as a whole and select the heat exchanger that is best suited to the performance requirements and specifications.
It is therefore recommended that you find a partner that can offer an extensive portfolio, backed by quality and experience, and that can tailor the coil or plate configuration to suit your application.
Finding the right solution brings peace of mind as it ensures that your system will run efficiently while having a positive impact on your total costs.

Green electricity
The new data centre is the first for Mainova WebHouse, a subsidiary of German regional energy company Mainova, which supplies more than a million people with electricity, gas, heat and water.
As part of the company’s commitment to decarbonization, the data centre campus will be supplied with 100% green electricity. Built with LEED-Gold certification, the new facility will reuse waste heat to power other buildings in the area.
Bespoke coolers
To cool the data centre, the customer needed a free cooling solution that would handle heat rejection on the roof. They wanted a water-based system as this is more environmentally friendly than glycol, plus a freezing protection system and a heat exchange surface of around 5,000 square meters.
Kelvion's R&D team in Fareham, UK, worked with the production team in Swiebodzice in Poland to create a customised prototype.
Following successful tests, we provided 20 units, each measuring 10 meters long and with 16 fans – all delivered within precise timescales.
