A shade unusual for copper plant: Using a customized color normally associated with a famous racing car was one of the more unusual specifications that Kelvion was asked to meet when supplying heat exchangers for a new copper production plant in Scandinavia.
Italian job FRIEM, specialized in high power converters and expert in energy conversion, designed the system that combines rectifier and power transformer. Transformer company Specialtrasfo supplied the transformer oil cooling system for which it chose Kelvion plate heat exchangers. We provided two ND100T double plate heat exchangers, which are designed to avoid liquids mixing in the event of failure, plus two axial oil pumps. Because of their oil-immersed bearings they are maintenance free. As both FRIEM and Specialtrasfo are based in Italy, we decided to assemble the heat exchangers at our Italian warehouse instead of at our factory in Sarstedt. As well as being more logistically convenient, it also saved on transport costs.Special coating Also our customer had specified a customized color coating on the frame. Called Arancioborealis, it is patented in Italy and is usually applied to well-known cars. We were able to comply with this special request and fulfill the order on time, thanks to a team effort involving Kelvion application engineers from Sarstedt, Monzingen and Italy. The result The new copper production plant is on schedule to begin operations at the end of 2021
